What's Going On At Clickbank?

The other week over at Wealthy Affiliate University I noticed some members in the forum were discussing Clickbank and asking what on earth was going on with them.

Apparently some of the members had been trying to create a new hoplink but instead of the usual hoplink format, they were getting a lot of jumbled letters and numbers.

In case you are unfamilar with Clickbank hoplinks, this is the usual format:

http://your-id.vendor-id.hop.clickbank.net

but instead they were getting something like this:

http://2ab35wmclvdxft2xzel8f5wbn.hop.clickbank.net/

Naturally as affiliate marketers who rely on affiliate hoplinks to receive credit for our sales, a lot of people were very concerned.

There was only one way to find out what was going on at Clickbank, so I headed over there to investigate further.

It turns out that Clickbank have had a facelift. They have changed their company colours and added some new features. One of the new features is the HopLink Shield. The HopLink Shield is a new free tool that encrypts affiliate and vendor nicknames in hoplinks. This is to give an extra layer of privacy and anonymity to hoplinks, keeping affiliates' promotional efforts and techniques hidden from others. In the past some affiliates have had their affiliate commissions stolen by unscrupulous people who had changed their affiliate hoplinks to theirs. So the HopLink Shield does seems like a very good idea.

Clickbank states that the old syle hoplinks are still valid so now we have a choice of either the normal old style hoplink or the new improved encoded hoplink. Some affiliates don't seem to trust the new encrypted hoplinks but whatever you think, the choice is yours.

Talking of hoplinks got me to remember when I was a newbie just starting out and how confusing things like hoplinks and hyperlinking seemed. The Importance Of Keyword Research

One of the things you will be taught at Wealthy Affiliate University is Keyword Research and the importance of having the right keywords for your website and articles. Keywords are the words or phrases people type into the search engines when they are looking for something on the internet. If you are trying to sell something for example, you must have the relevant keywords optimised in order for people to find your website. At Wealthy Affiliate University you will be given access to keyword research tools to help you find the right keywords or keyword phrases to use.

If someone is looking for information about weight loss and they type the keyword "weight loss" in google for instance, the number of search results for weight loss would be around 96,000,000. So if you are trying to optimise your website for the term "weight loss" you will find it a very difficult as there will be so much competition for that keyword.

So the best thing to do is to find what is commonly know as a long tailed keyword. For example instead of "weight loss" we could use the keyword phrase "weight loss diets" or "weight loss reviews" which would reach a more targeted audience and have a lot less competition.

Another example would be "shoes". If you typed the word shoes into google it would bring back about 333,000,000 results . Out of 333,000,000 results, how many do you think would be relevant for the type of shoes you are searching for. If you typed in "ladies shoes" google would bring back around 1,470,000 results, which is still very high. But if you typed in "ladies black leather shoes" the result would be 361,000. If you put speech marks (" ") around the words, you would get 1,340 results. Putting speech marks around the words would bring back results for ladies black leather shoes, in the exact order that it is written and therefore the results would be much more relevant to what you are searching for.

I hope by now you are beginning to see that by using long tail keywords you will reach a more targeted audience and the information you are supplying will be much more relevant to what they are searching for.

You will have access to tutorials and videos that teach you how to build your website with Site Rubix within a matter of minutes. You will be shown how to drag and drop, clone layouts, duplicate pages, add buttons and images all with the click of your mouse!

Built into Site Rubix is an FTP program so you can easily upload your website to a web server so it will be live on the internet. Just think how cool that will be when you have your own website live on the internet. You can show it off to all your friends and family.

Before I joined Wealth Affiliate University I never imaged that I would be able to build my own website. I always thought that it would be too complicated for me. But after watching the videos and reading the teaching material, I was able to build my own website and it wasn't very difficult at all. If I can do it then anyone can!

How To Become A Wealthy Affiliate

If you are new to internet marketing you are probably wondering, just what is an affiliate and where do I fit into this.

There are hundreds of merchants who are selling ebooks (which are called digital products) online. When someone buys one of their ebooks, they can simply be downloaded straight onto the customer's computer. There is no physical product and therefore once the merchant has produced the ebook he has no other expenses, so his profits are extremely high. It is therefore in his best interest to sell as many of his products as possible and this is where the affiliate comes into play. An affiliate is someone who markets the merchant's ebooks online and for every sale he makes, he receives a commission of anywhere between 50% to 80%.

Of course an affiliate can also sell physical products for merchants but the percentage is usually much lower, but on the other hand physical products (i.e. electrical goods etc) are usually more expensive to buy so therefore the actual amount in commission is relatively high.

Digital products are normally easier to start off with. When you are first starting out as an affiliate the first thing you need to do is to find a product to promote. To find a product to promote you should look at some of the Affiliate Marketing Networks. These networks are composed of 1000's companies that host their affiliate program through the network. One of the most popular Affiliate Marketing Networks is called Clickbank. There you will find 1000's of digital products that you can promote.
